We are constantly seeking new ways to offer children a range of creative and sporting activities which extend and enrich the National Curriculum. Pupils are able to explore new interests and discover new skills.
After school activities are provided by Kidz Zone and prove highly popular. Recent activities that the children enjoy are Gymnastics (Mondays) and Dance (Tuesdays)
On a Wednesday we also run an after school football club for the KS2 pupils. Each Wednesday will either be a training session or a competitive match against other local schools.
The wider Community
Being part of and supporting the community is an important part of the school ethos and we are invited and seek out opportunities to take part in village and local events.
Our school also has a growing relationship with Dunstable Football Club. Throughout this year we will be doing football-related projects and also have visiting coaches/players to meet the children. Our children already benefit from free vouchers to watch home matches.
Below is a photo of the KS2 team at the Creasey Park with both the manager and club chairman after a recent tournament for local schools associated with the club
Kensworth May Queen
Every year as part of our strong link with Kensworth Church a lucky girl from Year 4 is randomly selected to be May Queen for the village.
Alongside the May Queen are also one or two other Y4 girls who are the May Queen attendants. The May Queen is crowned on a Sunday around May Day and normally the school and church hold a fete to celebrate the occasion. See the photos below for past May Queens.
Specialist Music Tutor
In the village of Kensworth we are lucky to have Adrian Lenthall who is a premier standard member of the Royal College of Organists. If any of our children wish to undertake Piano lessons then we recommend they contact Adrian for a higher standard of tuition. His lessons take place outside school hours at his specialist music centre and are arranged directly with him.
Adrian also comes into our school on special occasions, along with some of our children demonstrating what they have learned from him during parent assemblies.
For those children who go to our school, it gives them the opportunity to learn the piano from one of the very best, right here in our village.
Some of fun things we have done in the past include
- were invited to plant trees at our local quarry
- asked to work on a project with Whipsnade Zoo
- produced a stunning art exhibition in our village hall as part of Kensworth carnival to celebrate our success at achieving the Silver Artsmark award
- our children sang and provided readers for a district carol service in the Methodist church in neighbouring Dunstable
- some children took part in a service at the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral service (see picture below)
